The Classical Romans And The Roman Civilization - 1202 Words

Marlee Bunker HIS-111-02 Mr. Shelton October 13, 2014 The Classical Romans There is a lot of background on the Classical Roman Civilization. They had many traditions and values that came from ancient Italians. The culture of the Romans was inclined by classical Greece. Many of the things that Romans did came from the Greeks. They were the type who did not like the idea of new things coming to place because they thought it may be dangerous. They wanted to keep the old traditions and values, as they knew that those things worked, but they were scared to try new things because they thought it wouldn’t work as good. Although, sometimes the father could give the land to his son, but if the son wa s doing something that his father did not like then the father had a right to kill him if he wanted to. Rome went from a monarchy, to a republic, to an empire. They started out as a monarchy (753-509 BC) and it was ruled by seven different kings and there was a senate which was ran by the kings’ personal advisors. The aristocrats did not like the monarchy because they had just as much money as the monarchy but they could not rule. The monarchy was eventually overthrown in 509 BC because the king lost his kingship. The Legend of Lucretia says â€Å"I have at my disposal, and never to tolerate Kings in Rome evermore, whether of that family of any other.† This legend was supposedly why he lost his kingship. They were a republic from 509-27 BC. Only males had a say so in this type of government. They were the ones who made the laws and elected the officials. Because of the victories that Rome had during the republic it made them a leading power in the Mediterranean. There were 250 years of warfare during this time period and the Romans conquered Italy.
